Invitation Training for Peruvian Healthcare Policy Makers

8-day capacity-building training for digitalization of health insurance claim and review process  in Peru

The Institute of Global Health Care and Development (Director, Professor Kim Jong-gu) in Yonsei Wonju College of Medicine has invited policy makers in the Peruvian ministry of health and Integrated Health Insurance Agency, and has conducted capacity-building training for the digitalization of health insurance  claim and review process.

The trainees were nine high-level policy makers in the health and medical field, including the Peruvian Vice Minister of Health and the head of the Seguro Integral de Salud.

Starting with the entrance ceremony at  Yonsei Wonju College of Medicine on the 13th of November, 2022,
the training lasted for 8 days. In-depth lectures by experts in the domestic health and medical field were held on the following topics: the Korean health insurance system and review & operation system, health insurance big data-based policy establishment cases, COVID-19 and telemedicine, etc.

In addition, the trainees toured the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, Wonju Public Health Center, and Wonju Severance Christian Hospital. They also have created an action plan that can be applied to Peruvian health insurance.

Dionisio Ignacio Poma Poma, vice minister of health in Peru, said, "It was a valuable opportunity to listen to useful lectures from various experts in Korea and experience the Korean health  system. I will try to apply this experience in Peru to produce good results."

Another trainee, Ciro Abel Mestas Valero, the head of the Seguro Integral de Salud, said, “This training was a place where Korea and Peru, which are on opposite sides of the globe, met and shared knowledge, experience, technology, and reality. Now that we are facing the challenge of establishing a global health standard model in the post-pandemic era, we can achieve this through harmony and friendship between our two countries.”

Professor Kim Jong-Koo, director of The Institute of Global Health Care and Development, said,
"Establishment of an action plan for digitalization for integrated health insurance claim and review process and the establishment of a telemedicine platform will contribute to the development of the Peruvian health care system, and it is expected that it will be of practical help to improve health.”

This program is hosted by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and as part of a project named PMC Service for the Project for Digitalization of the Management of the Comprehensive Health Insurance and Telemedicine Platform to Improve the Quality of Health Services of the Vulnerable Population in Peru.
